Safeguarding children is everyone’s responsibility at Tilstock CE Primary School. Everyone who comes into contact with children and their families and carers has a role to play in safeguarding children. In order to fulfil this responsibility effectively, All staff working directly with children must read and ensure they understand KCSiE 2024.
All staff must ensure they are familiar with the systems within school which support safeguarding, including the child protection and safeguarding policy, the staff code of conduct, the behaviour policy, the safeguarding response to children who go missing from education, and the role of the DSL (including the identity of the DSL and any deputies). These will be explained to all staff on induction.
All staff are aware of indicators of abuse and neglect so that they are able to identify cases of children who may be in need of help or protection. All staff maintain a belief that ‘it could happen here’ where safeguarding is concerned and if staff have any concerns about a child’s welfare they act on them immediately.
Children are supported with their knowledge of safeguarding through our termly Safeguarding assemblies. These are either completed with the whole school, if appropriate for all ages, or within individual classes if it is of a specific age group. Examples of these are the NSPCC Pantosaurus Talk PANTS which helps children understand that their body belongs to them, and they should tell someone they trust if anything makes them feel upset or worried.
Families are kept updated with Class Dojo Safeguarding bulletins. Items such as keeping children safe online is included within these. The community is encouraged to pass on any local information and/or incidents that may pose a risk in the local environment. These are always shared with our families to help
