Year 3 and Year 4

Welcome to Otter Class

Welcome to Otter class! In Otters we are taught by Miss Jones, Mrs Cartlidge, Mrs Turton, Mrs Lowe and Mrs Lazell.

In Otter class, we strive to make sure that we show our school values in everything we do by trying our best and we capture these moments by writing them on our worship wall.

We also love learning and knowing more. We are very lucky to be able to learn in our new classrooms at Tilstock CE Primary School. We have an amazing view from our class and enjoy spending time looking after our class decking area and looking across the beautiful fields at the wildlife they hold.

One of our favourite subjects is maths, and we grow in confidence in this area every day. We are working hard on our times tables and written multiplication strategies. We also love our topic and science and the amazing opportunities we have to explore our learning in many different ways. We learn using continuous provision tasks for most of our afternoon subjects to allow the learners to become independent and challenge themselves too. It’s a fun and engaging way to learn.

We are a kind and welcome any visitors and new faces that come into our classroom so pop along to see us any time.

Homework – Expectations and links

Homework in Otter class is sent out to children on a Friday at the end of the school day. Homework is due in every Wednesday as this allows for homework to be marked and new homework to be prepared. If your child has any difficulties completing the homework please let us now via class dojo or in person.

Reading

Please hear your child read regularly, ideally every day. Please then write in their reading diary and teachers will sign planners on a Monday. Your child will be awarded dojo points for reading at home. If your child is accessing Accelerated reader, then they will complete a quiz at the end of each book. They can follow the link below and use their log in to take a quiz at home or school and then change their books in school following their quiz.

Spelling / writing

This year we will be using the Read Write Ink Spelling scheme to help us learn our spellings. Your child will be allocated a task to complete at home to help them with their learning.

10 spellings will be sent home each week for your child to learn in their homework book. Try to encourage your child to read the word, cover it and then spell it to help their practise. They will then have a spelling quiz at the end of the week with dojo points to be given as rewards for good progress and effort in their practise.

They will also receive a short writing task that will be in their homework book based upon the grammar and punctuation features we have been practicing during the week in our writing lessons. This is useful as it gives the children the opportunity to recall these writing features so they can recall them and continue to remind themselves how to use these writing features that are so important to what they achieve in class.

Doodle Maths

There will be weekly homework set onto Doodle maths, where your child can complete a task related to the math’s concept they are currently studying. Once they have completed their assignment, they can complete min challenges on doodle maths as often as they would like to.  A daily 10 minutes on doodle maths has shown to allow children to make huge progress in their maths so as often as possible practising on here is amazing.

All children have their login details for this in the front of their homework books.

Please follow this link: https://doodlelearning.com/

Times Tables

We also have access to Doodle tables to support children with their times table practise. Just follow the link for ‘Doodle tables’ after clicking ‘login’ and then ‘student’ on the same link as given above for doodle maths. We recommend they practise their times tables weekly. This is really important in helping the children to become more confident in using their times tables in class and helps speed up calculations for them.

Below you will find our 99 club worksheets for every times table from 2 to 12. Children can practise multiplication by completing these activities as an alternative.

Topic

Each half-term the children will receive homework based on the current topic that we are covering in school. Activities will be posted in your child’s homework book or onto your child’s class dojo page and also a link on their class page on our school website.

We want to share this work in class – Please post pictures of these pieces of homework onto your child’s portfolio onto Class Dojo and children will be awarded dojo points for every piece of homework that they complete and share. Or they can bring their creations into class for us to share too. Alternatively you can email photos in to us at admin@til.mmat.co.uk

On the last week of half-term, class teacher’s will review all the homework and children will have the opportunity to share these pieces with their classmates.
