Embedding a culture of Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging
All school’s across The Marches Academy Trust are working on embedding a culture of Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (EDIB). At Tilstock, we understand the importance of this and have seen/been working on a number of projects to support this objective.
Staff have been researching new initiatives to increase inclusivity and the sense of belonging for the Tilstock community. Each classroom has a wide variety of books covering many protected characteristics and discussions around these are encouraged. Newsround is watched daily and leads to open and interesting conversations between staff and pupils regarding key issues. Shout out to Mr Paterson who has been busy creating links between the school’s Polish/Ukrainian communities, leading a donation drive during the Festive season. Following the positive, popular, and proactive staff EDIB training session, Key Stage 2 planned an event to allow pupils to experience other religious festivals. The Holi festival, a Hindu festival celebrated in March worldwide, was chosen; the event included food tasting and the traditional paint powder experience. This was a resounding success with the community and the success of events such as these throughout the year at Tilstock show the positive impact of EDIB and the empathy, maturity and cultural awareness it can allow to shine though all pupils
